Safe In Harm’s Way is answering the question, “What is the meaning of abuse?”

There are many types of abuse examples which include financial, emotional, psychological, sexual, and covert (hidden abuse). Physical abuse always comes as a shock.

The shock of physical abuse leaves you paralyzed in a “what just happened” kind of way. Your mind cannot process the violence from a person who claims to love you.

And, in the beginning, the physical abuse can be accompanied by huge apologies from the abuser. Tears. Begging and pleading for forgiveness, and promises it won’t happen again. Or a commitment to getting help and therapy that never happens. But it does happen again and again, and zero steps are taken to actually get the help needed to be safe and non-violent.

Slowly over time, the apologies stop, the violence gets worse, and the blaming begins, “Why do you make me so mad?! I don’t want to hit you, but you really make me mad.”
