Removing your personal information from the internet can be the difference between safety and abuse. Safe In Harm’s Way has all the scoop about the Safe At Home for survivors of every kind of violence.

The Safe At Home Program is run by each state. The program removes your personal and searchable information from the internet, so that people can’t find you on personal property records or court records. This is especially helpful when you buy a new car or rent a home, or buy a house.

Why is this important? When a survivor summons enough courage to escape, and then FINALLY finds security in a home or apartment, and maybe even a car to drive that is all their own all information is posted by data brokers.

And just like clockwork, the headless Barbies (why do abusers always choose headless Barbie dolls) start showing up in the mail. Why is that? Well, data brokers release all your new addresses into the digital world, and abusers can easily find you- even in other states. So, before you buy or rent anything be sure to sign up for this program.

Did we mention IT IS FREE? Well, it is! You just need to call a local domestic violence shelter, and tell them you want to sign up for the Safe At Home Program. The shelter (Remember: You do NOT have to live there!) will help complete the paperwork and get you started into an anonymous address that you can use for anything so that no one will be able to find you.

IMPORTANT: You can even use this address when you have to list where you live for custody paperwork. If you ever run into any problems the people who run these programs are incredible and will step in to help at every point needed. SIGN UP TODAY!!
